Courting Death (Maiya)

(Ignore the walkie-talkie)

Those moments in the shed - when she almost lost her life, was a moment shared between her, Saber and Kiritsugu. How could it be, that this stranger know about it? Unless…

But that was impossible. The servant who fought Kiritsugu’s way of fighting, held so tight to code of chivalry - how could she be tainted this way? She didn’t know. She didn’t understand. She couldn’t lower her gun, but her arms were shaking. She couldn’t comprehend the situation. She knew that the grail was corrupted, but how could it twist a person to that extent? If that was the case, then who is Saber’s master now…?

Her eyes moved from the corpses to Alter’s golden eyes. They held no warmth nor emotion, as if the pile of dead bodies were nothing but rubbish. Maiya no longer felt confused. It was replaced by fear. Not fear for her own safety, it was fear for the King of Knights, and the others that might stand in her way.

“Saber, you - ” She struggled with words, she wasn’t good at communication with people when it didn’t involve material things. She tried again, this time looking right into Alter’s eyes, as if trying to find a shadow of what was the Saber she knew.

“You strongly disagreed with Kiritsugu’s ways, yet… you’re killing without mercy.” She paused, resuming her statement with a careful tone.

“Do you remember what you said to Kiritsugu after we killed Lancer and his master?”

Even if it’s a matter of life or death, as long as it is the action of humans it must have rules and beliefs that allow no violation. Righteousness must not be lost! Otherwise, the endless flames of war will once again turn this world into hell at the end!”

Righteousness? Maiya, what is your definition of righteous? I was only gave the the meager end they deserved. It was me or them. I am, most, certain that you of all people would understand such reasoning. Am I evil, am I a monster? Well. Look at what this Grail of Holy Power put upon me.” She barked at the woman in black, her hues fixating upon the weapon she held. There was no emotion, just apathy about the Knight. Alter took a step closer, seeing if Maiya were to fire. “I abandoned those ideals long ago, I no longer hold any care for chivalry. They were delusions of control!” Those words, to an extent, were a lie. Her eyes, that gaze, did not let up as Maiya was ‘forced,’ to look upon them.

No more! No more was Altria valiant or good to those of mortal eye. They could never understand her, nor the ideas she held within the chasm of her chest, where a beating heart once lie. “I killed, just as they would have. It was fair.” She glared at Maiya now, bored with such lectures that did not even matter to her. Alter turned, head looking over the shoulder. “Do you wish to kill me? Pull the trigger, we’ll find out what lies within the monster.”

“You stand before me, ready to fight to the claw. I will not raise my blade, there is little worth to do so. You are not evil to me, nor do you stand in my way. Fire the trigger..”

“What is evil Maiya?! Tell me, what is it, I wish to know.” She rambled on, without little concern. Alter snapped at her, laughing, knowing that the woman before her was with Kiritsugu and his ideal of peace. “If you want to know of evil, it stand with the man you idol, Emiya Kiritsugu and his putrid wish for peace.”

The Thoughts of a Darkened Hero.

“For what you think is Evil, is not what I see it.

Evil is opposition to progress, stagnation as opposed to evolution.

Evil are those that stand against your growth.

Evil is the current we swim against. I, however, do not view this as a vice. I respect those who are evil to me, as long as they stand strong in their belief. I believe in the necessity of demons, yet I do not welcome them, rather stand against them.

Another interesting thing, and this sparks much conflict when I say: He is the one who tries to abolish evil, is evil himself.

Our selfish nature, can be used for good.
Our cruelty can be saved for those who have earned it.
And our harshness can be made beneficial, just as anything can be harmful.

This is when one must accept the harsh reality that, “True Peace,” is an illusion.
That a life without pain or struggle, is a life without wisdom or growth.
That he who seeks to liberate the people from worry and strife is weakening humanity itself.

There will always be those who are weak of will.
Those will be blinded by catechism and dogma.
We must pity them, but we must demolish them.”

“Wondrous, that Priest’s Sister has graced my presence. Truly. It must be an honor.” Sarcasm laden sentiments were given towards the young woman of the church. Alter never cared for greetings, she just lazed about such structure when her Master was away. Golden hues, similar to Caren’s own watched her from afar.

Anonymous sent: Did you not, surrender your blade to All the World's Evil, seeing that Heroes are to be hated. Giving your blade to it, when Justice could not defeat it?

“‘Justice’ is a highly subjective matter. Someone may consider killing murderers an act of justice, but someone else would say it’s bad and doesn’t make us any better than killers, so he’d be for a life-long imprisonment instead of killing the guilty ones. If you think that way, you realize that Justice in fact can defeat every evil, for as long as there are condemn-able acts, there’ll be people who condemn them and judge them.

Again, the whole what is evil and what is not argument comes to mind. Oversimplifying things is bad, it leaves people with the feeling that they know something, when in reality, they don’t know squat because they only have the solution, not the formula for it.

Am I evil? No. I do not think I fit the definiton of Evil. I am not a Villain either. I entrusted, not surrendered my blade to All the World’s Evil, to defeat those who I thought as evil. Did I hold righteous, even if I did such a cruel thing?

If you remain steadfast and ‘righteous’ ( loyal to your ideals ), you’re in no way surrendering to evil. Surrendering to evil would be tainting your hands with it, not the other way around. Remaining loyal to your beliefs until the very end, even if it means not killing the killer who, for example, killed your family, or vice versa, killing a person for killing your parents, even though that wouldn’t be necessary and just ‘surrendering’ to some greater evil you’re not aware of, is an admirable act, that should be honored and not dismissed as ‘surrendering’ by those who didn’t have enough willpower to do the same.

Was it the only way? No, probably not nor do I care. It was a dream abandoned long ago.

But what is evil to me? Evil is stagnation, something that opposes growth. That very thought goes against what I used to be, for Arturia Pendragon wanted true peace, which in itself is an illusion.”

Anonymous sent: Do you find members of the Church evil, are they out to bring misfortune upon the world?

Define evil. Not everything you dislike/are against of is evil. Not every act condemned by our laws and norms is evil. If a person committing ‘evil’ acts does it with good intentions or thinking they’re doing good, how can you call it evil? Evil is too complicated of a subject to be used so lightly.

I do not find the entire organization to be, your evil. However there are those who reside within who are manipulative, selfish, and cruel. This does not entitle them to the definition of evil; not in my term.

Our selfish nature can be used for good.
Our cruelty can be saved for those who have earned it.
The harshness we possess can be made beneficial just as anything can be harmful.
